SHERA Roundtable on “Digitalization in Art History,” featuring ARTMargins Online: March 24, 12:00pm EDT

SHERA’s Spring 2026 roundtable on “Digitalization in Art History” was dedicated to exploring digital tools for research, online archives, and virtual environments for museum collections. The speakers will address their essential work in using digital tools in art history, including the creation of the Reader in East-Central-European Modernism 1918–1956 at The Courtauld, the development of the online Norton Dodge Collection at the Zimmerli Museum, and the leadership of the virtual outlet of ARTMargins Online. Rereading Socialist Realism: Podcast on Comparative Perspectives on Socialist Art

In recent years, US scholarship has succeeded in establishing a new perspective on the art of the ex-GDR that overcomes the dichotomy between so-called “dissident art” on the one hand, and “official art,” on the other. Rather than cementing this dichotomy, scholars of this new trend in art historical research points out and study the interconnections and entanglement between official and non-official art.
