THE ARTIST ON HIS WORK:
“I think if we all stop and think about it, what we remember about something is really more real and lasting than the lived moment. . . . I make things that last, and I can look back at them, but I can’t really reproduce the time, emotions, motivations, and interests that brought them about. So, when I take those memories—the physical memory of the techniques, the mental memories of the ideas behind them and combine them with the new skills, ideas and interests that are part of my makeup now, something new has evolved.” (From an interview with the artist published by Mark Moore Fine Art.)
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Dimitri Kozyrev was born in Leningrad, USSR, and moved to the United States in 1991. Primarily a painter, his “fractured” landscapes combine an abstract vocabulary with images of buildings in variious states of decay that speak to memory and post-industrial ruin. He is currently located in Salt Lake City where he keeps a full-time studio practice. See his website: dimitrikozyrev.com.
