ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Boris Mikhailov is a Soviet and Ukrainian photographer and a key figure of the Kharkiv School of Photography. His early photographs explored the duality of Soviet life, from intimate, candid portraits of private life to investigations of the collective body in public spaces, as in the series Salt Lake, images of bathers taken clandestinely by the photographer while visiting southern Ukraine. Later works explore the post-communist condition, including his well-known Case History series (1998-99), documenting those left homelessness by the social upheaval following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
